Brighton’s Breweries & Taprooms:
Ultimate Pub Crawl
Let’s set the scene.
You’re sitting, chilling on the beach. The wind is gently breezing its way through your hair, with the sun beaming down on you. Sunglasses on, waves crashing in front of you – life is good.
You look down to see the delicious can of beer you’re holding in your hand. With a smile, you see one of Brighton’s brilliant breweries’ brews staring back at you. You take a sip and soak it all in. What a way to spend the day.
With a plethora of fantastic breweries and taprooms to choose from, Brighton really is an absolute wonderland for craft beer snobs like us.
But with so many great drinking establishments available, how can you navigate them all? And is it all doable in one day?
Well, have no fear. Through the combined power of our love of craft beer and Google Maps, we have created the pub crawl guide of all pub crawl guides. Let’s get to it.

pub 1: THE Urchin (Larrikin)
Don’t worry – we haven’t gone mad. We know this is a pub. It’s what’s inside the pub that we’re interested in.
While The Urchin may be better known for the delicious seafood it offers, the pub’s basement is home to Larrikin Brewery.
After discovering a love of craft beer while working over in Australia, head brewer Nick decided to join forces with another brewer called Austen.
Working together at The Urchin, they have since turned their dreams of making their own beer a reality, going from strength to strength ever since (almost literally in terms of ABV).
They now serve various cans and draught beers on the six taps housed inside the pub. So, we couldn’t think of a better place to kickstart your pub crawl.
You’ll find The Urchin an 11-minute walk down from Hove railway station, sandwiched between Iceland and Tesco.
Pub 2: Bison Beer Crafthouse
Once you’re all done at The Urchin, it’s time to head out, take a left and wander across the Tesco car park until you reach George Street.
From here, try to resist the urge to check out The Royal George and George Street Tap. Instead, make your way to Church Road.
Approximately 10 minutes from here, you should find Bison Beer magically appearing on your left-hand side.
Now, this pub isn’t huge. But what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for with its beer choice.
Featuring a rotating line-up of craft beers from around the globe, including some of Bison’s very own creations, take your pick of what’s available and get yourself nice and settled in.
You’ve got a longish walk to pub number three from here, so you may even want to stay for some of their delicious tacos. You might end up needing the calories, after all…
Pub 3: UnBarred Brewery
There’s no beating around the bush with this one, so we’ll just come right out and say it. The walk from Bison Beer to UnBarred Brewery is approximately 36 minutes.
BUT… it does offer a pretty great walking tour of Brighton’s best areas, such as Western Road and Seven Dials.
You’ll also pass a ton of fab pubs en route, including The Robin Hood, Shakespeare’s Head, The Crescent and The Cow. Y’know, in case you fancied breaking your journey up a little bit.
And trust us when we say, the walk will be 1000% worth it by the time you get there.
Why? Well, UnBarred Brewery is arguably Brighton’s most popular and well-known brewer.
With a wide range of classics available, such as Stoutzilla, Joosy and many more, there’s always something for everyone. If anything, it’s the perfect place to rest those weary legs – for a little while, at least.
Pub 4: Lost + Found
OK, now this one is optional as it’s a little off the beaten track.
Whether you choose to visit or not comes down to: a) how tired your legs are already b) your commitment to Brighton’s breweries and taprooms and c) whether you want our full O2L seal of approval.
If you do decide to go for it, first of all – congratulations. You are made of some strong stuff.
Secondly, you’re going to absolutely love it when you get there.
Nestled in the heart of Fiveways, the Lost + Found craft beer taproom serves a wide range of the craft beers it produces in its Brighton-based garage brewery.
Grab a pint, settle in and enjoy the rewarding taste of a walk well walked. You’ve earned it.
Pub 5: North Laine Brewhouse
From Lost + Found, the walk to taproom number four will take you another 26 minutes.
However, if you decide to skip Lost + Found, the walk from UnBarred Brewery will take you approximately 11 minutes instead. The choice is yours.
Whichever option you decide to take, you’ll still eventually end up at North Laine Brewhouse – an absolute wonderland of a pub/taproom/brewhouse that’s perfect for people who love large spaces with lots of fun things to do.
As its name suggests, the taproom is owned by LAINE and is the site where creations like Mangolicious, Fader, Sonar, Source and Word all come from. It’s also on PUBBL, which means you’ll collect a ton of points on whichever drinks you decide to get. Win-win.
If you fancy, they also have shuffleboard, interactive darts, axe throwing and numerous photobooths available – the ideal way to create multiple, drunken everlasting memories of your day.
Pub 6: Mad Dog Brewery
After you’re all done at North Laine Brewhouse, head back up Gloucester Road and try not to get too distracted by all the pubs you’ll see on the way.
Make your way past The Basketmakers, The Eagle, White Rabbit, Brighton Tavern and The Pond, then turn left onto Queen’s Road. Walk past the Clock Tower, take a left down Duke Street and, within moments, Mad Dog Brewery and Taproom should magically appear.
As one of the lucky guests to first taste the beers from this taproom, we can vouch for how good it is.
After bringing Welsh beer to Brighton's shores, the taproom has already become a true staple of the city centre, offering a wide variety of delicious pale ales, lagers, IPAs and stouts.
Our fave? Now In A Minute red ale, but mainly for the hilarious Welsh-themed name.
Pub 7: Brighton Bierhaus
While it may be difficult to muster the strength to leave all of the pubs that The Lanes has to offer, you simply must. You’re on the home straight now.
From Mad Dog Brewery, you’ll need to make your way over towards Kemptown. After approximately 12 minutes of walking past classic Brighton landmarks, like the Royal Pavilion and Victoria Gardens, you should reach Brighton Bierhaus on Edward Street.
With over 100 Belgian and German beers to choose from (including 25 on draught, strap yourself in – you'll probably need to have at least a couple here.
Our recommendation? Get yourself a beer tasting paddle. That way, you'll be able to try as many beers as you fancy, without needing to end your night before you reach pub numero eight.
Pub 8: Lost Pier Taproom
After you’ve finished working your way through all 100 beers at Brighton Bierhaus, you’ll probably be relieved to hear that you now have a 31-minute walk to reach your next destination. Just enough time to work off at least some of the units.
Your route will take you all the way along Eastern Road, from one end of Kemptown to another, towards the Bell Tower Industrial Estate. Once you arrive, you’ll find Lost Pier’s Brewery and Taproom at Unit 2.
If you end up in Burgess Hill, you’ll have likely put the wrong Lost Pier taproom into your Google Maps. It’s equally nice there, just an extra four hours to walk.
After getting all settled in, grab yourself a pint of Beach Session IPA (if you like beaches), Paddleboarder Pale (if you like beach-based activities) or Fruit Machine NEIPA (if you like, well, fruit… I guess).
Pub 9: Loud Shirt Brewery
You’ve now done eight breweries and taprooms. Congratulations! Got one more in your locker? This one is pretty much next to Lost Pier, so it’d be rude not to…
Lost Pier is at Unit 2 of Bell Tower Industrial Estate. Loud Shirt Brewery is at Unit 5, so prepare yourself for a huge 69-foot walk between the two.
With eight beer lines to choose from, including classics like East Street IPA and Hazed & Confused NEIPA, this is the ideal place to wrap up your brewery tour of Brighton.
Whether you'd rather settle down on the benches outside or soak up the atmosphere inside, the choice is entirely up to you.
Now that all of your walking is done, we'd recommend whipping out the notes app on your phone and recapping your favourite beers of the day.
Oh, and while you're at it, why not vote for your favourite brewery? If only someone had made a handy voting form you could fill in to help… 👀
