All you need to know about The Pond
As a brand with a love of all things geese, a pub called The Pond is right up our street – both literally and figuratively.
Located only a stone’s throw away from Brighton train station, this pub does a whole lot more than ‘wet’ your appetite. In fact, it’s frogging fantastic, with a huge range of craft beer to soothe Brighton’s croaky throats.
(OK, I’ll stop with the pond puns now)
While we might be slightly biased, we absolutely LOVE this pub. But if you’re interested to learn more about it, we don’t want to leave you pond-ering any longer (sorry, I can’t help myself).
Here’s all you need to know about the place.
Food and drink at The Pond
Which types of drinks is it good for? 🍺
As a microbrewery, The Pond serves up a fab range of craft beers from around the local area.
During our visit, they had the latest concoctions from breweries like Beak, UnBarred and Only With Love. But they also had an awesome-looking range of cocktails.
If we weren’t such craft beer snobs, we’d have definitely tried some. Oh well, I guess we’ll need to go back…
Does it do food? 🍔
Yes, it does, and it’s genuinely some of the best pub grub in Brighton and Hove.
The Pond specialises in Taiwanese street food. Think things like bao buns, chicken skewers, loaded fries… all the good stuff.
It’s not just any pub food either. Not only is it good value, it almost tastes gourmet – definitely not something we expected to experience going in. It’s certainly not your classic Wetherspoon’s-style pub grub, that’s for sure.
Take a look at their full menu here to get those taste buds tingling.
Does it do roast dinners? 🍗
Unfortunately not. Just like how Easy Tiger @ The Hampton specialises in Indian street food, The Pond focuses on what it does best. This, unfortunately, means no roast dinners.
But, with the quality of the food they do do, we promise you won’t miss it. Maybe just bring some gravy to dip your bao bun in, if you’re desperate for a quick fix.
Features and amenities at The Pond
Does it have a beer garden? ☀️
Yes, it does! While it’s not huge and only has a few high chairs to fight over, it’s the perfect spot for catching the sun with a pint in hand.
It’s also a great people-watching spot. I guess you could say it’s a similar vibe to being at – oh, I don’t know – a pond?
Is it dog friendly? 🐶
Yes, very. Dogs do love ponds, after all, so it’d be pretty rude not to let them in.
The pub can get quite busy, though and isn’t exactly huge, so it’s definitely worth booking ahead if you’re looking to bring your furry friend with you.
Does it have any games or activities available? 🎲
Not that we could see. But it’s got such a lovely vibe and atmosphere, you won’t really miss them.
You could always bring some of your own board games along with you too. It’s pretty hard to leave once you’re in, so you may as well have a few options up your sleeve if you fancy a game or two.
Does it run a pub quiz? 🧐
No can do, or at least we didn’t see anything mentioned about pub quizzes during our visit.
I guess that must mean there’s not much of a market for pond-based quizzes, unfortunately.
Although saying that, we’d 100% be up for one. The team names alone would be hilarious.
Does it show live sport? ⚽
No. This pub is all about three things: good beer, incredible baos and a relaxed atmosphere.
However, The Queen’s Head, Railway Bell and Caxton Arms all do show live sport, and are pretty nearby.
How far a walk is it from the nearest train station? 🚂
The Pond is a three-minute walk from Brighton train station.
You’ll pass several other pubs on route as well, including The Evening Star, The Caxton Arms, The Railway Bell, Grand Central and The Queen’s Head. So, why not make some kind of pub crawl out of your visit?
It’s stop number two on our very own North Laine pub crawl guide, so go check that out if you fancy visiting our fave pubs around the area.
How would you describe The Pond...?
...to a friend? 🗣️
The Pond is a beautifully decorated pub near Brighton train station. A microbrewery which specialises in Taiwanese street food. I mean, could you ask for any more?
The craft beer choice is also always incredible, and so is the vibe. The only downside is the distinct lack of geese or ducks in the pub. But I guess we are a bit biased...
...as a film? 🍿
The Mighty Ducks – zero ducks, mighty pub.
